I’m a (real) monument!

Unbuilt temporary installation

“I am a (real) monument!” is a 6.2m3 mirror, iron and ledmade
temporary installation, designed by ROBOCOOP.
The structure is a container that thinks at the design level as
a contemporary extension of the tower of Villa Farinacci,
which during the day hides in the Roman landscape through
the reflecting surface of the mirrors, while at night shows its
urban profile through the led lights.
The structure is the site of the projection of “Metaphora”,
an architectural research film by Rome-based art duo
ROBOCOOP in collaboration with ROMBO Productions,
in which several ancient buildings are overlapped or replaced
with modern-contemporary buildings.

The novel of this project:
/
“When I saw that tower, I just wanted to climb over it. The tower has always
been an architectural element that reassures me. Lorenzo Chiaraviglio designed
it by re-elaborating the motif of the Littoria tower, to dialogue with the other
nearby towers as continuous vertical milestones.
/
I notice her in the evening, at dusk. It signals its presence, lighting itself along
its lattice profiles. The mirror becomes the frame of a light that marks its
lattice.
/
By day it disappears. It is a mirror reflecting the sky. Natural extension of
the tower, it hides between and with the natural and architectural landscape. It
does not pretend to be beyond what it is already is from project: A landmark, a
vertical sign along the urban profiles of Nomentana, among the Roman pines.
/
I’m on the ladder ramp. Winding is the way that leads me to the top. The tower
stretches and rising feeling cold, then warm. The cold of a closed surface and
new to the wall of the villa, the heat of the projectors that create a mapping.
/
A place aseptic container, full of infinite reflections, produced by projectors that
reproduce in loop a video on collage of buildings in Rome. Sometimes the video
is interrupted and the view of Montesacro, Ponte Mammolo and San Basilio is
silhouette. It is a possible Rome but not real. Between video and reality, between
similarities and Dissimilitudes, is Metaphora of Rome.
